Centrepoint Tower
In the Heart of
Sydney

The 300 meter high Centrepoint Tower (also called the
AMP Tower or the Sydney Tower) in Pitt Street mall, Sydney,
rises tall over the surrounding banks and office blocks and is
an icon of the Sydney skyline.
The lower floors of Centrepoint Tower includes a basement food
hall and a shopping mall. You can take a high-speed lift to the
observation deck for a spectacular view over the top of
Sydney's tallest buildings, or you can dust off your Gold card
and eat in splendour at the revolving restaurant right at the
top.
During the 2000 Sydney Olympics, there were three giant
sporting figures lifted by helicopter and attached to the
building, but they have since been removed, thank goodness.
The full 360-degree view from the observation deck of
Centrepoint Tower lets you see all the way to the city of
Wollongong in the south, the Blue Mountains to the west and the
NSW Central Coast to the north. It is well worth the $20
admission charge (less for children and concession card
holders).
You can access the Centrepoint Tower and its shopping
centre from Pitt Street, which runs along the
block's western side. This particular section of Pitt
Street is closed to vehicular traffic during the day, and has
become a haven for buskers and other street performers who
entertain pedestrians and tourists alike. The pedestroan mall
is between King Street on the north and Market street on the
south.
You can also enter the Centrepoint shopping centre complex
from Castlereagh Street on its eastern side.
